Dear 8920/8930 Printer Customer,

Lake Erie Systems is pleased to announce the acquisition of the 8920/8930 printer product line from IER Incorporated, effective immediately. Lake Erie Systems has obtained the exclusive rights to manufacture and market the 8920 and 8930 product line which includes printers, options, spare parts, ribbons and service. 

Lake Erie Systems will assume and fulfill all open 8900 product orders currently held by IER, and will honor all outstanding 8900 warranties, subject to our existing policies and procedures.

The 8920 and 8930 are heavy-duty, multi-copy, impact printers. They were originally designed and manufactured by Texas Instruments Inc. In 1996, the TI printer business (including the 8900 business) was sold to GENICOM Corporation, who continued to market and manufacture the products. In June of 2000, IER Incorporated purchased GENICOM’s Airline Travel Industry business, as well as the 8900 series printer line.

IER issued an announcement on October 2, 2000 stating that they were “phasing out” the 8920 and 8930 at the end of 2000. While it is true that IER will cease to manufacture the 8900 products at their Temple Texas facility, Lake Erie Systems will be transferring and assuming full manufacturing responsibility at our Erie, Pennsylvania facility. Over the next few months, we will be assessing the needs of our customers, and will make a final decision on whether to continue production of new printers. Regardless of our printer production decision, Lake Erie Systems will continue the manufacturing and distribution of spare parts and consumables, as well as authorized depot service and refurbishing / remanufacturing of the 8920/8930 products. We are pleased to commit to our customers that we will continue to fully support the 8920 and 8930 for a minimum of seven additional years.
